Buy American Act Compliance

We are grateful to have LIGHTGLASS installations across the globe, from Puerto Rico, to Canada, to Dubai, and beyond. However, we are proudly an American company, based in the original Capital of the USA; Philadelphia. Our products are designed at our office in the Constitution building on 4th and Chestnut streets, just two blocks east of Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell. Our manufacturing facility, 7 Creek,  is just a few miles south of Philadelphia in Boothwyn, PA.

Just a few decades ago, Philadelphia was one of the most important manufacturing cities in the world. In the price-sensitive lighting industry, most manufacturers have outsourced their manufacturing and supply chains to other countries in order to cut costs. However, LIGHTGLASS is focused on quality. That is why the majority of the components used to make LIGHTGLASS are procured and manufactured domestically. This enables LIGHTGLASS to comply with the Buy American Act, as outlined below:

The Buy American Act requires Federal agencies to procure domestic materials and products. Two conditions must be present for the Buy American Act to apply: (1) the procurement must be intended for public use within the United States; and (2) the items to be procured or the materials from which they are manufactured must be present in the United States in sufficient and reasonably available commercial quantities of a satisfactory quality. The provisions of the act may be waived if the head of the procuring agency determines the act to be inconsistent with the public interest or the cost of acquiring the domestic product is unreasonable. Contracts awarded by State and local authorities under Federal grant programs are not covered by the act unless authorizing statutes explicitly provide for application of the act. Problems in administering the act involve definitions of “substantially all” of the components and definitions of “manufactured in the United States.”

We serve the global design community, and as our company grows, we will continue to increase our investment in local people, local small businesses, and a local supply chain. We are proud to have already contributed to several Veterans Association healthcare facilities and federal buildings, and we look forward to providing the absolute highest quality lighting and architectural products for your projects.
